We see our job here at St. Mary's as a simple one. Jesus told us: "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." And that's what we want to do most of all: make disciples.
That starts with ourselves, the members of St. Mary's.
So, for the glory of God, we want to grow as followers of Jesus, and then of course share that with others- leading them to know and follow Jesus. It wouldn't be good news if it wasn't worth sharing!
Jesus has changed our lives, our destinies, our eternal life-after-death. He has given us peace with God and a purpose in our lives. He answers prayers, he makes sense of everything. Of course we want others to have that too! And we want to grow in it, and never stop growing in it and following Jesus closer and closer until at last we meet him face to face, as He promised.
Some might ask- what about other kinds of charity work, fund-raising and such?
As Christians we do many, many things like that. We try to be the best neighbours we can be, we put on social events and toddler groups and work for a better Chaddesden. We campaign and we raise money. Yet above all these good things is this ultimate goal that Jesus gives us- starting with ourselves: make disciples.
The first place we are called to do that is in our own lives, then in our own homes, and our own neighbourhoods in and around Chaddesden. So if we ask if we can talk to you about Jesus, please forgive us. It's what we live for.
