The Gospel of Christ

Christ Died for Sins Once for All to Bring You to God

St Mary's is an Anglican Evangelical Church, in that we have a firm belief in the inerrancy and infallibility of the Bible as the revealed living Word of God (we are Evangelical) and we believe in the expression of this through the historic formularies of the Church of England (we are Anglican).

What does all that mean? Essentially we believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that God shows his love for people everywhere in sending Jesus into the world to die on the cross to pay the price for our rebellion against him. Through faith in Jesus, we find forgiveness, peace with God and new life in relationship with Him now and into eternity.

We believe in a trinitarian God (one God in three persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit) who made the universe, made a way for sinful human beings to know him and be close to him, and who helps his people to live the life he wants for them. He has revealed himself by His Word, and His Holy Spirit continues to speak to his people by His Word today.

Because of this, we seek to make reading and learning from the Bible the central thing whenever we meet.

This is Good News, and we want to tell people everywhere about this, and help people to find faith in Jesus for themselves.
